Our Mission & Vision

Transforming lives through quality technical education and training

Addressing South Africa's Critical Skills Gap

South Africa faces a severe shortage of qualified artisans, with the National Development Plan calling for 30,000 new artisans annually by 2030, yet only 20,000 are currently trained each year. This creates a significant opportunity for youth employment in a country where youth unemployment stands at 58%.

At TFET, we're committed to poverty alleviation by equipping South African youth with industry-relevant technical skills that provide fast access to the job market, better remuneration, and promising career prospects.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about training with TFET

What makes TFET different from other training providers?

+
TFET has been training artisans since 2008 with a 100% project completion rate and over 1,500 successful graduates. We're fully accredited by QCTO and NAMB, with Red Seal certified instructors who have 30+ years combined industry experience. Our partnerships with companies like SASOL and government entities ensure our training meets real industry needs.

How long does it take to become a qualified artisan?

+
Short courses take 3-5 days and provide immediate skills for entry-level positions. The complete NQF Level 4 Red Seal artisan qualification takes 24 months, including theory, practical training, and workplace experience. Many students start working after basic training and pursue full certification while employed.

What are the job prospects after completing training?

+
South Africa has a critical shortage of qualified artisans, with only 20,000 trained annually against a target of 30,000. Our graduates have a 95% employment rate, working in mining, construction, manufacturing, and government sectors. Entry-level artisans earn R8,000-R12,000 monthly, while Red Seal certified professionals can earn R25,000-R40,000+ per month.

Do I need matric to enroll in artisan training?

+
No matric is required for short courses. For the NQF Level 4 artisan program, you need NQF Level 1 (Grade 9) with Mathematics and Science, and must be at least 16 years old. Grade 12 is preferred but not mandatory. Work experience can sometimes substitute for formal education requirements.

Is training funded by SETA or government programs?

+
Yes, training can be funded through EWSETA (for electrical) and merSETA (for welding) for employed learners. Companies can claim back training costs through their skills development levy. We provide full assistance with SETA funding applications, documentation, and claims processes. Individual payment plans are also available.

What is the difference between QCTO and NAMB accreditation?

+
QCTO (Quality Council for Trades & Occupations) accredits our training programs and ensures they meet national standards. NAMB (National Artisan Moderation Body) certifies our trade test center and validates that we can conduct official Red Seal assessments. Both accreditations guarantee nationally recognized qualifications.

Can I study part-time while working?

+
Yes, we offer flexible training schedules including evening and weekend classes. Many students complete short courses (5 days) during leave periods, then pursue Red Seal certification part-time while employed. We also offer block release programs for companies sending groups of employees for training.

What support do you provide for job placement?

+
Our career services team provides CV preparation, interview coaching, and direct referrals to our network of 150+ employer partners including SASOL, DPWI, and major construction companies. We maintain lifelong career support for all graduates and regularly share job opportunities through our alumni network.
